Exertis Almo’s Rob Voorhees Named a Systems Contractor News 2024 Member of The Nine - May 09, 2024

Beyond designing audio projects and closing telecommunication deals, Voorhees constantly pushes to improve; Newest endeavors include public speaking, podcasting and championing the topic of autism and AV

Philadelphia, PA — May 9, 2024 — Exertis Almo, the largest and most specialized value-added North American AV distributor, today announced that Rob Voorhees, Business Development Manager II – Technical Specialist for Exertis Almo, has earned one of the highly coveted positions in the Systems Contractor News’ (SCN) 2024 cohort known as “The Nine.”

An advocate of DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) in AV, Voorhees is a member of the AVIXA Diversity Council and is speaking at InfoComm 2024 on the topic of Autism and AV. He also recently hosted a podcast about how DE&I initiatives are improving businesses, company culture and our world.

Considered among the most recognized and admired awards in the AV industry, SCN’s The Nine recognizes young professionals in the audiovisual industry who are already making an impact on the future of AV. According to SCN, these recipients take risks, forge new paths, and bring both professionalism and positivity to the workplace.

"The Nine is all about celebrating younger professionals who are navigating their own successful journeys through our industry," said Mark J. Pescatore, content director, Systems Contractor News. "Rob is truly engaged in the Pro AV industry and his work at Exertis Almo. Not only does he never stop learning, but he shares that knowledge with others through articles, speaking opportunities and podcasts."

“Rob exemplifies an unparalleled commitment to continual growth and learning, along with a genuine interest in the success of others,” said Exertis Almo Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy Rob Ziv. “He uplifts his colleagues and fosters collective growth and achievement. He is a shining example of what dedication, humility and warmth can achieve.”

“Being selected as one of The Nine of 2024 is an absolute honor,” said Voorhees. “To be associated with such prestigious past, present and future recipients is something that I would’ve never imagined seven years ago when I first started working in Pro AV and I intend to continue on this path for many years to come.” He continued, “The Nine provides an opportunity for the industry to shine a spotlight on the efforts of a diverse group of individuals each year. Regardless of your age, background or role, you are recognized for your contributions to Pro AV, which I believe carries a high distinction into the future.”

Rob Voorhees to Deliver Presentation at InfoComm 2024 About Autism and AV

Taking place on Thursday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m., Voorhees will discuss how to further the conversation about neurodiversity in AV to maximize employee skill levels and attract a more diverse customer base. It includes his personal experience as the parent of a neurodiverse daughter and the process of helping her navigate her way through school and, soon enough, into her professional career.

The session focuses on small changes, such as softer lighting, audio controls, quiet spaces, noise-canceling headphones and other small tweaks could go a long way towards helping people with neurodiversities provide a strong contribution to their organizations. It's about understanding these needs and providing the tools and resources to accommodate them.

“Mind Your Business” Podcast Series

Earlier this year, Voorhees began hosting a podcast series called “Mind Your Business.” In the most recent episode, “Red Waves, Bright Futures: DE&I Strategies for Business Triumph,” he is joined by Kim Lonas, Global Diversity and Inclusion Program Lead at Exertis, to discuss how these initiatives are aligned with improving businesses, company culture and our world. Rob is also joined by his daughter, Samantha, who is on the autism spectrum, to get her perspective as a student and new employee. Learn more about their recommendations on what businesses can do to make a more equitable work environment for neurodiverse employees and customers.
